BMAC Therapy

Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) therapy involves the use of a patient's own bone marrow to facilitate healing in various conditions. The bone marrow is a rich tissue nestled within the cavities of bones, teeming with stem cells along with a multitude of other cellular components that play a crucial role in the regeneration and repair processes of the body. During the BMAC procedure, a physician carefully extracts bone marrow tissue, typically from a region known as the iliac crest, which is part of the pelvis located at the back of the patient's hip area.

To ensure patient comfort, the patient will receive either an oral or twilight sedation and the area from which bone marrow will be harvested is numbed using a local anesthetic. Following this, a specially designed needle is carefully introduced into the bone to access and withdraw the liquid bone marrow. The harvested bone marrow is then processed using multi-step filtration and a centrifuge, a device that spins the marrow at high speeds. This process concentrates the valuable cellular components by separating them from the less useful elements.

The resulting concentrated bone marrow is then meticulously prepared for reintroduction into the patient's body. It is injected directly into the site requiring treatment, which could be a damaged joint, a site of fracture, or areas afflicted with other orthopedic conditions. The goal of BMAC injections is to harness the body's innate healing mechanisms by increasing the concentration of regenerative cells in the affected area, potentially expediting recovery and promoting tissue repair.
